Song of Ice and Fire

I recently finished reading the four books of the Song of Ice and Fire by George R. R. Martin. Wow, exhausting. Around 4,000 pages of betrayal, bravery, lust, contempt, love and hate. Almost every decision (and there are a lot of them) has real consequences on the story. Any character could be killed or injured at any time. Many of the characters go from evil to good and back again over the course of the series.

I don’t think I’ve ever read a series of books where I was more concerned about the safety of the major characters all the time. I wanted to know more about what was happening with Arya or Tyrion or Brienne, but I lived in fear for what would happen to them with every page. My partner only read the first one because she couldn’t take it!

The next book in the series, A Dance with Dragons, is listed on Amazon for pre-order with a publish date of September 30, 2008. I hope so.
