I don’t know about you, but the morning after a party kind of a night, I like a good, greasy breakfast. Though the Rickshaw is a chinese food restaurant, they have excellent american-style breakfasts. I love walking into the dark, sort of dingy place best hung over. They have an excellent pull-tab selection and a full bar.
On the weekends, they often have a breakfast special which includes two eggs, any style, two bacon or sausages, toast and hash-browns. This delightful deal also includes a delicious Bloody Mary for your morning serving of vegetables. All these goodies for a little over six dollars. Their sausage links are the best I have ever had…anywhere! I don’t know where they get these things but they are huge, fat, juicy and full of flavor. Who knew a simple pork sausage link could get me so excited? I also like their hash-browns, fried crispy and golden brown. I prefer my eggs over-easy so that I can cut them up over my hash-browns and add a little Tabasco and ketchup and lots of black pepper. They serve a scrumptious raspberry jam for your toast. A perfect sized meal for those rough mornings.
The Bloody Marys are where my true passion lies. I am very picky about a Bloody Mary and I don’t like those fancy, chunky artisan types. I like a good, old-fashioned strong bloody and the Rickshaw has them in spades. They are garnished with spanish olives, a lime wedge, a tasty pickled green bean, and the requisite salted rim. The garnishes don’t take away from the meat of the Mary, always poured with a generous hand. If you’re gonna partake in some “hair of the dog”, this is where to go!
They also serve a hearty ham steak, thick-cut and fried in butter until it’s dry and full of flavor. Salty and smokey, none of this honey-baked madness. Their pancakes are huge, fluffy and golden brown. Nettie often orders the biscuits and gravy but the gravy is inconsistent in my opinion. Most of the time, it’s country deliciousness, sometimes not. They have an extensive breakfast menu which appeals to all who love breakfast fare.
Several of my friends have gone there and not liked it. I think it may be a subjective kind of meal. It also may have something to do with the inside decor and ambiance…not too fancy to put it politely. But I have not had a bad experience there yet and I’ve gone there for several years now. The staff are very sweet and they remember you after only two visits. They remember your orders too. The last time we went in there, they instantly served us our Bloody Marys as we were sitting down. I like that kind of service!
I would not recommend the chinese food however.
