Kisaku

We tried Kisaku in Green Lake for the first time this past week. Kisaku is a sushi joint in Tangletown. It is bright and airy, with a large sushi bar. It was pretty crowded Friday night, but they do take reservations, so plan ahead.

We started off with the Assorted Mushroom Salad, which had warm, buttery mushrooms on top of field greens and some vegetables with a miso dressing. The salad was good, but not as good as the sauteed mushrooms at Chiso. We also tried the Nuta, a bunch of seafood over seaweed with cucumbers and onions in a Miso dressing. It was a little drenched in the dressing. I tried the miso, which was pretty good.

For dinner, I was delighted that their California roll didn’t have mayo in it. It was great, and a rare delight for me (I can’t eat mayo). I also tried the Wallingford roll, which has yellowtail and some vegetables. I really enjoyed my sushi rolls. Our friend a-bomb, who joined us for dinner, also enjoyed the California roll, but did not like the Devil’s Vegetable Roll . Thena tried the sashimi plate, but wasn’t blown away.

The service was pretty lax. They never cleared our plates through the meal, so our hand towels, appetizer plates, and soup bowls were still on the table as we ate our dinner. Very odd. Parking in Tangletown is a pain.

Overall, it was pretty good, but probably not good enough to get a return trip. I wish every sushi place had a California roll without mayo, though.
