Last night we went to Morton’s for a steak before walking over the 5th Avenue Theatre to see Cabaret. I know, Morton’s is a chain, and there are a couple great local steakhouses downtown (the Met and El Gaucho), but we wanted to go somewhere close to the theatre. We used to go to Morton’s in Atlanta when we lived there, but had never been to the Seattle branch.
Morton’s is a steakhouse, and the steaks are great. Definitely the best steak I’ve had in a couple of years. I had the single-cut filet, which was about 8 ounces of awesomeness. I can grill a mean steak, but I can’t buy a piece of meat that has been dry-aged for 3 weeks and has that much flavor. Thena also had the single-cut filet and enjoyed it. Thena also had sauteed spinach and mushrooms, while I opted for the baked potato (HUGE). Both were fine, but it really is all about the steak here.
The ambiance is a little odd to me. It is not as clubby feeling as the Met, but is darker - the Met is a little bright. It would help if there were a few more booths. Also, it is in the basement of the building, so no windows. It also seemed to be the sort of place where almost everyone in there was from out of town.
The service is very good. Our waitron asked if we had a time we needed to leave by (which we did), and made sure our meal was done by then. She made recommendations according to our schedule - telling us we should avoid the bake to order desserts because we wouldn’t have enough time. Of course, we knew we wouldn’t have enough stomach space, so that wasn’t an issue.
I would go back to Morton’s for the steak alone.
